Another butterfly in Kathleen’s WOOL APPLIQUE project, Butterfly Sampler by Sue Spargo. If you are following this project then you will know that Kathleen opted for a soft green wool background and the entire sampler measures 16×22. Butterfly #12 today.
For this project Kathleen opted for softer more muted colours with the exception of this darker purple butterfly. I am looking forward to sharing the full quilt so you can see how well this fits in with her plan.
The body is embellished with fly stitch in a chenille fiber. The upper wings are bordered with bullions and overlaid with a cotton patterned fabric bordered with a bulk fiber couched in place and further embellished with beads. Kathleen added a small circle of velvet which is bordered with chain stitch and a cluster of bullions in the center.
The lower wings are bordered with chain stitch and accented with double cast-ons in the center.
Once again, you will see a ric rac seam treatment in the background with French knots and trellis circles.
You will find a large selection of Colour Complements threads in the SHOP for embellishing.
If you are not familiar with any of these stitches, you can find video tutorials on Mary Corbet’s NeedleNThread.
You can see more of this project in previous posts HERE and HERE. Thank you Kathleen for sharing this lovely project.
