Kathleen’s new WOOL APPLIQUE project, Butterfly Sampler by Sue Spargo. As I mentioned previously, the background is a soft green wool and the entire sampler measures 16×22.
This is Butterfly #3 in this series.
The butterfly is a golden yellow wool base. The body is embellished with a closed buttonhole stitch. The upper wings are bordered with a combination of Palestrina and chain stitches in two colours of size 5 perle cotton in Colour #8 and Colour #12. They are layered with a printed fabric which is bordered with chain stitches. An inner layer of blue wool is bordered with stem stitch. The lower wings are bordered with French knots in a size 5 perle cotton, colour #12. They are embellished a small strip of ric rac which is couched in place. The background is layered with fabric bordered with coral stitch and embellished with running stitches.
If you are not familiar with these stitches, you can find video tutorials on Mary Corbet’s NeedleNThread.
Always a delight to see what stitch combinations and colours she uses. Thank you Kathleen 🙂
