Wool applique using Colour Complements threads

Kathleen’s new WOOL APPLIQUE project, Butterfly Sampler by Sue Spargo.  As I mentioned previously, the background is a soft green wool and the entire sampler measures 16×22.

Butterfly #8 today.

The butterfly body is embellished with what I believe is a row of straight stitches with Palestrina but I am not absolutely certain.  The background is a cream shade dyed wool.  Kathleen has added a patterned fabric in the upper wings embellished with a beautiful trellis stitch.  They are bordered with a combination of cast-on and bullions.  The bottom wings are bordered with buttonhole stitch and the centers are layered with a blue wool embellished with a row of open fly stitches.  All are size 5 perle cottons. You can find a great selection of these in my Colour Complements shop

You will note some additional trellis stitch in the background.

If you are not familiar with any of these stitches, you can find video tutorials on Mary Corbet’s NeedleNThread.

I will be taking an extended long weekend returning to regular posting on Monday February 11th. The SHOP is open.
