Kathleen’s new WOOL APPLIQUE project, Butterfly Sampler by Sue Spargo. As I mentioned previously, the background is a soft green wool and the entire sampler measures 16×22.
Butterfly #9 today.
The butterfly is a pale blue wool. The body is stitched using closed buttonhole (I think). The upper wings are layered with a patterned fabric which has been bordered with stem stitch in a size 5 perle cotton. There is an outer border of fly stitch. This is further layered with pale yellow wool which has been bordered with bullion stitches. A buttonhole ring has been added to the center.
The lower wings are bordered with stem stitch and embellished with French knots and spider web wheels.
Once again there is a circle background of patterned fabric. This has been bordered with bullion stitches and beads.
You will note some additional trellis stitch in the background. If you are not familiar with any of these stitches, you can find video tutorials on Mary Corbet’s NeedleNThread.
Another beauty – thank you Kathleen.
