Are you familiar with Flying Fish Kits?

I’ve been featuring Kathleen’s wool applique project over the last year. The pattern is designed by Wendy Williams who owns Flying Fish Kits. She is an Australian designer and this particular pattern is called “Baby Blooms Cushion”. Kathleen created a wall hanging versus a cushion. The pattern measures about 20 inches square.

She has used a grey and white polka dot cotton fabric as her background and will use this as a wall hanging when complete.  Check with your local quilt shop as they should be able to order the pattern for you.

So, let’s talk a bit about this bloom!

The flower is bordered with zig zag stitches with tiny wool circles embellished with a bead.  The center purple circle is a ribbed spider web.  In case you are not familiar with this stitch, you can find a great video on Needle N Thread HERE. The blooms was stitched with size 5 perle cotton and the stem with size 8 perle cotton. There are lots of colours to check out for embellishing in my SHOP.
