WOOL APPLIQUE

Another butterfly in Kathleen’s WOOL APPLIQUE  project, Butterfly Sampler by Sue Spargo.  If you are following this project then you will know that Kathleen opted for a soft green wool background and the entire sampler measures 16×22.

Butterfly #11 today.

I love the yellow and purple combination on this one.  The butterfly body is embellished with a chain stitch in a solid brown perle cotton.  The butterfly upper wings are bordered with Palestrina stitch in a size 3 perle cotton.  Kathleen has chosen a printed cotton fabric to overlay embellished with small buttons and bordered with French knots.  The lower wings are bordered with stem stitch.  These are overlaid with purple wool bordered with bullion stitch.

You will see a trellis stitch in the background with some drizzle stitches and a button wheel.  A lovely seam treatment of ric rac and French knots.

You will find a large selection of Colour Complements threads in the SHOP for embellishing.

If you are not familiar with any of these stitches, you can find video tutorials on Mary Corbet’s NeedleNThread.

You can see more of this project in previous posts HERE and HERE.  Thank you Kathleen for sharing this lovely project.

I will be attending the EAC seminar next week and will return to regular blog posting on Monday May 20th.
