Today marks the final post in our Wool Applique Circle Sampler Series, where we’ve showcased 30 original circles and flowers over the past two years! These circles and flowers vary in shape, from perfect circles to intricate floral designs. Despite their differences, they all share a similar size, making them a cohesive and stunning collection.
Each circle in this sampler is stitched with a variety of Colour Complements threads and techniques, creating a rich collection of textures and colours. Kathleen, my talented friend and designer has mastered wool applique and hand stitching. The results of her skill are showcased in this lovely sampler.
For those new to wool applique, this is an excellent starting point for hand stitching. There are numerous online resources and books to help you learn the basic stitches.
This is just a refresher that the background is light blue hand-dyed wool, and the entire project is stitched with Colour Complements threads. The sample measures 14 ½ inches wide by 18 inches long, so a fat quarter of background wool would work!
While this may be a small project, it’s a perfect option for stitching throughout the year. You can work on it at your own pace, enjoying the meditative process of hand stitching. It’s also a delightful and accessible form of needlework. Start by selecting a simple circle shape and choose a variety of threads and stitches. This project allows you to experiment with different textures and colours, making each circle unique.
I’d like to extend my thanks to Kathleen for designing and stitching this beautiful project. Hopefully, she has inspired you to stitch your own circle sampler. Thank you, Kathleen!
