Another butterfly in Kathleen’s WOOL APPLIQUE project, Butterfly Sampler by Sue Spargo. If you are following this project then you will know that Kathleen opted for a soft green wool background and the entire sampler measures 16×22.
Butterfly #14 today – this is the second to last one!
The body of this butterfly is embellished with an open fly stitch. The upper wings are bordered with a woven chain stitch. There is a central shape of patterned cotton which has been bordered with coral stitch and beads. The inner overlaid wool is embellished with open fly.
The lower wings are bordered with backstitch with an inner row of Palestrina (I think!).
I think the background patterned fabric looks great don’t you?
You will find a large selection of Colour Complements threads in the SHOP for embellishing.
If you are not familiar with any of these stitches, you can find video tutorials on Mary Corbet’s NeedleNThread.
You can see more of this wool applique project in previous posts HERE and HERE. Thank you for another beauty Kathleen.
