Sadly, we have come to the last butterfly in Kathleen’s wool applique butterflies project, Butterfly Sampler by Sue Spargo. If you are following this project then you will know that Kathleen opted for a soft green wool background and the entire sampler measures 16×22.
Butterfly #15.
Kathleen has chosen a soft muted green wool for this butterfly. The body is embellished with a lacing technique which I think looks fabulous and provides texture.
The upper wings are bordered with fly stitches. Once again this is layered with patterned fabric and overlaid again with a yellow wool which has been bordered with cast-ons. AND they are beautifully stitched cast-ons!
The lower wings are bordered with stem stitch and embellished with small felt circles which have been bordered with back stitch and embellished with drizzle stitches.
The background of this butterfly has a selection of patterned cottons along with the addition of a lovely trellis circle.
You will find a large selection of Colour Complements threads in the SHOP for embellishing.
If you are not familiar with any of these stitches, you can find video tutorials on Mary Corbet’s NeedleNThread.
You can see more of this project in previous posts HERE and HERE and all the posts will be listed under Wool Applique in categories in the right side bar.
Thank you so very much Kathleen for sharing this project with my readers. I will be sharing the completed sampler in a final post soon.
