Introducing my version of Ariadne! Ariadne is a counted canvas pattern designed by Michael Boren and Carole Lake. It was inspired by the opera Ariadne auf Naxos, by the great German composer Richard Strauss. This is the third in a series of designs inspired by Strauss’ operas. The other two designed by Michael Boren, are Arabella Reborn and Daphne Reborn. You can order the pattern from Carole Lake at Stitchplay Designs.
I came across this pattern last year when it was offered once again as an online course through the Shining Needle Society. I knew I had to stitch it as soon as I saw it. Michael and Carole offer the design in various colour palettes but naturally I had to come up with my own. I specifically dyed up a summer palette of colours that I felt would look good in the project – it is BOLD!
So, let’s talk about the details. The pattern in stitched on 18 count mono canvas (eggshell) and measures approximately 8×8”.
As I mentioned previously, I used three of my new summer collection, Colour #30 which is a BOLD and GORGEOUS blend of pale pink, apricot and pale yellow. Colour #32 is another beauty of golden yellow, green and turquoise/blues. Colour #33 is STUNNING and a blend of turquoise and blues.
I added two Kreinik size 8 braids, colour #4 – orange and colour #10 – turquoise which add a bit of bling and blend well with the palette. I also added two of my TRIOS – turquoise and golden yellow, again both blending well.
I have put the entire colour palette together as a kit just in case some of you may like to create your own Ariadne. OR, perhaps for another canvas project of your choice.
This shows you all three designs – Ariadne, Arabella Reborn and Daphne Reborn.
Hope you like my version of Ariadne. Thank you to Michael and Carol for a lovely design.
I will be taking a blog break over the next twelve days returning to regular posting on Friday July 7th. The SHOP remains open during this time.
