I’d like to introduce our star mitten today! This is the fourth mitten in our Twelve Months of Mittens series. You will find all the mittens under Twelve Months of Mittens in categories so make sure you check them out.
Susan came up with our mitten series late last year when she proceeded to stitch these as gifts for her family. What can I say, our stitch group was inspired so we began stitching MITTENS!
What Do You Need to Stitch our Star Mitten
We used 18-count white mono canvas for our mittens but naturally, you may use what you wish. Our mittens measure about 2 ½ x 3 inches (approximately) – they are SMALL! You may like to stitch them a bit larger – we will leave this up to you. All the mittens I’ll be featuring are stitched with Colour Complements threads.
Our star mitten uses several small left-over Colour Complements threads including colours 66, 67, 33, 189, 31, 187, and 29. The pattern is expanded by alternating a scotch stitch for the squares and satin stitches for the diamonds. The cuff is a diagonal brick stitch. For reference you will find both stitches in the Stitches books by Ruth Schmuff and Kathy Holicky – there are five volumes!
I hope you have been gathering supplies to stitch some mittens yourself. They are a lot of fun, fast to stitch and allow ALL of us to use up leftover bits of threads from previous projects.
Join us for another mitten next month!
