In January I introduced our bargello series and today I’d like to share the second sample, our stash buster bargello stitch design!
If you are new to the series, each month I’ll be featuring a bargello sample. If you don’t wish to stitch some bargello, perhaps the colours will inspire some new colour combinations for your next needlework project.
How We Created Today’s Stash Buster Bargello Stitch Design
Today’s stash buster bargello stitch design sample measures approximately 3-inches square on an 18-count canvas. This is a great sample as it uses a variety of size 5 Perle cotton in different colour combinations.
You would not need much of any particular colour. When you are choosing your colours, make sure you place contrasting colours next to one another so the pattern can be better visualized. Some of the colours used in this design are
Just in case you are not familiar with bargello, it is a type of needlepoint consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. Patterns in bargello are naturally geometric and while flat stitches are basic and easy to stitch, the patterns require concentration when counting.
We hope by sharing these samples that you can visualize how well over-dyed and variegated threads can work in bargello.
