The expression “flower power” brings back memories from the 70’s BUT today is all about flower power in wool applique.
I’m delighted to share another flower from Kathleen’s project. The pattern is by Australian designer Wendy Williams called “Baby Blooms Cushion” measuring 20 inches square. Kathleen has used a grey and white polka dot cotton fabric as her background and will use this as a wall hanging when complete. Check with your local quilt shop as they should be able to order the pattern for you.
This flower is one of the larger ones in the design and it’s a beauty. Kathleen has layered two circles of wool. The outer circle is bordered by a long cast on arched with French knots in between. Elongated fly stitches are in the inner circle and the center circle is trellis stitch with drizzle stitches. You can see a tiny bit of the pink/orange wool felt peeking through from the larger circle. The cast on stitches were completed using Colour Complements Colour #3 in a size 5 perle cotton.
If you want to see more of Wendy Williams designs visit her website, Flying Fish Kits. You are sure to find something you love in bold beautiful colours!
Thank you Kathleen.
