WOOL APPLIQUE, Colour Complements Threads

Bloomin Beauties Block #17!  I have mentioned previously that this is Kathleen’s WOOL APPLIQUE version of Bloomin Beauties pattern by Kim Schaefer.  You can find this in Kim’s Flower Festival book.  She has used a heavy black flannel for her background.  Kathleen has used Colour Complements threads.

It is all about PINK today.

Kathleen started with a pale solid sage green for her leaves which are bordered in back stitch using what appears to be a wool thread.  She opted to repeat the back stitch to create a central area and added French knots in a rayon cord which was available in my sampler packs several years ago.

The stem has a single line of stem stitch in a solid sage green perle cotton.

I always love to see how Kathleen uses various values which is clearly shown with her pink petals in both light and medium/dark values of pink.  The outer petals have a very dense border which I believe is double chain with the addition of seed beads in a variegated perle cotton.  The darker pink petals are bordered with buttonhole stitch using a rayon thread to add some shine and further embellished with a stitch I am not familiar with – I know some of you will recognize it.

The center of the flower has a mixture of stitches.  There is a chain stitch with bullions added to the middle, small bead flowers and several rows of coral stitches.  The entire center petal is bordered with what appears to be a laced chain stitch.

A lovely combination don’t you think?  Thanks Kathleen.
