WOOL APPLIQUE, hand dyed perle cotton

More WOOL APPLIQUE today.  Bloomin Beauties Block #6.  As I mentioned in previous posts, this is Kathleen’s wool applique version of Bloomin Beauties pattern by Kim Schaefer.  You can find this in Kim’s Flower Festival book.

Once again the background is a heavy black flannel and all the wool is hand dyed available through Wool Penny Rugs. Kathleen has used Colour Complements threads.

I love the colour choices Kathleen has made – a lovely combination of pink and red.  She has chosen a solid green wool for the leaves and bordered these with what looks to be stem stitch.  The centers are embellished with a thick wool fiber couched in place with bullion stitches (great idea!).

She has chosen a patterned red wool for the flower petals and bordered these with stem stitch.  The central area of the flower is a base of solid pink wool overlaid with solid red wool.  I think the ric rac border is lovely.  She has stitched this in place using straight stitches.  The center is bordered with either a Palestrina stitch or coral stitch – not sure which one with beads to highlight.

I do hope you are enjoying this project.  Simplicity works well don’t you think?!  Once again, thank you Kathleen.
