Kathleen’s new WOOL APPLIQUE project, Butterfly Sampler by Sue Spargo. As I mentioned previously, the background is a soft green wool and the entire sampler measures 16×22.

The butterfly body is embellished with bullion stitches in a medium and dark brown perle cotton. The upper wings are bordered with stem stitch and further embellished with French knots. Printed fabric is bordered with bullions and layered with velvet which has been embellished with double cast-ons.
The lower wings are bordered with coral stitch and embellished with wrapped rings and a design using chain stitch.
