WOOL APPLIQUE, hand dyed threads

Bloomin Beauties Block #2 – WOOL APPLIQUE!  As I mentioned in previous posts, this is Kathleen’s version of Bloomin Beauties, a pattern by Kim Schaefer.  You can find this in Kim’s Flower Festival book.

Once again the background is a heavy black flannel and all the wool is hand dyed available through Wool Penny Rugs.  Kathleen has used Colour Complements threads.

Kathleen has bordered her leaves using wool thread couched with perle cotton.  The center is accented with a combination of stem stitch and straight stitches.  She has opted to add no border to the petals instead choosing to repeat the combination of stem and straight stitches in a size 5 perle cotton.  The center is slightly padded to give it a raised appearance with seed beads.  This is bordered with lovely cast-ons.

I admire the way Kathleen repeats her stitch choices and uses a balance of both variegated threads with solids.  Once again, thank you Kathleen – hope she has inspired you wool applique enthusiasts!  Have a great weekend.
