Kathleen’s new WOOL APPLIQUE project, Butterfly Sampler by Sue Spargo. As I mentioned previously, the background is a soft green wool and the entire sampler measures 16×22.
Butterfly #4 today.
The butterfly is a yellow base hand dyed wool. The body is bordered with a double chain stitch. The upper wings are bordered with cast-on stitches and layered with a print fabric which is bordered with a backstitch laced with a second perle cotton. Kathleen has added small rings which are wrapped in a size 5 perle cotton. You could also do a buttonhole stitch around rings as well.
The lower wings are bordered with a chain stitch in a size 5 perle cotton. They are layered with small blue wool circles which are bordered with a backstitch and embellished with a large cross stitch.
There is a circle of printed fabric in the background which has been bordered with backstitch and embellished with beads.
If you are not familiar with a cast on stitch you can find a video tutorials on Mary Corbet’s NeedleNThread. You will find a selection of size 5 perle cottons to use in this project at Colour Complements Shop.
Wishing all my American customers a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING. I will be returning to blogging on Monday November 26th.
