a stitch sample of a blue ginko leaf on a pale yellow canvas

Our last leaf in the Ginkgo series showcases a brighter approach compared to previous designs. It features a beautiful blue palette on an 18-count pale yellow canvas.

Dominique wanted to experiment with different canvas colours, allowing for versatile mounting options on various coloured cardstock. The cardstock displayed here is a soft pale cream, perfectly complementing the delicate hues of the pale yellow canvas used in the pattern. This is an excellent card option for Spring-based holidays like Easter or Mother’s Day!

Measuring about 3 inches square, this sample is framed with a Gobelin stitched border, which adds a polished finish to the overall design. The border draws the eye into the pattern in a more subtle way compared to the black mono-canvas designs that I featured previously. The cream colour of the card stock and pale yellow canvas looks quite lovely, creating a little more depth to the design.

The background canvas is cross-hatched with size 12 perle cotton in gold. This cross-hatching technique introduces a subtle play of light and shadow, enhancing the visual textures of the work. The metallic sheen of the gold cotton beautifully contrasts with the soft yellow canvas, making the design pop.

Additional Colours used on the Pale Yellow Canvas

The pale yellow and overall warmth of the background and card stock made for the perfect neutral canvas for brighter and bolder colours. I chose the following colours to create more depth to the overall design, ultimately giving the Gingko leaf pattern a 3D type of finish!

We hope you’ve enjoyed following the Ginkgo series and are inspired to incorporate different stitch techniques, colour combinations and even canvas colours into your next needlework project.
