Our ongoing Ginkgo Needlepoint pattern series, where Dominique continues to explore new colour palettes and techniques with each pattern, bringing different interpretations to this existing design.
She has been using different canvases and stitch techniques and experimenting with various strands of floss to see how this pattern transforms with each change.
Dominique used a contrasting colour palette of blue and yellow for this particular pattern to bring this design to life. The cool tones of blue combined with the warmth of yellow provide a striking contrast against the black mono canvas, making each design element stand out. These colours work wonderfully, offering a fresh, bold feel while still maintaining a sense of cohesion.
Today’s leaf is stitched on 18-count black mono canvas using four strands of floss, creating a delicate yet vibrant appearance. A fine metallic thread was incorporated to add interest and depth to the background, enhancing the overall design.
The blue and yellow colour palette used for this design includes the following:
- Colour 73 – various values of pale turquoise
- Colour 80 – lime green and pale orange (which blend to create the contrasting yellow you see on the design)
- Colour 82 – various values of aqua
This particular project continues exploring the Ginkgo Needlepoint pattern series. Each pattern allows for creativity and individual expression, as needle workers can experiment with different threads, textures, and colour combinations.
The Ginkgo series highlights how minor adjustments—like the number of strands used or the choice of metallic accents—can dramatically change the overall look of a piece. I encourage you to embrace this creative freedom and make this pattern uniquely yours by incorporating your ideas of colours and materials.
