Nature has always served as a guiding inspiration for my colour combinations, and this ocean-inspired colour palette is no exception! Having lived with an ocean view for many years, I was constantly fascinated with the changes in various hues of blues and greens, darker in storms and lighter in sunlight. These ever-shifting colours sparked the creation of Colour #14 – my personal “ocean” blend.
In this month’s colour feature, our focus is on this ocean blend of Colour #14. Rather than pairing it with the turquoise blues and various greens (which is also an incredible colour palette!), we’re focusing on how this colour pairs with the primary color palette, spotlighting three colours that are found in my collection:
As mentioned in my previous blog post, Colour #67 is a bold blend of yellows and colour #134 is a blend of cherry reds.
Our featured needlepoint piece, Mystical Stairs by Carol Mullane Design (accessible on the Rainbow Rainbow Gallery Website), serves as a perfect pattern to highlight the different possibilities you can create with a simple, yet stunning primary colour palette.
This piece measures 3 inches on an 18-count mono canvas. With the intricate little patterns and detailing that break up the cool hues of Colour #14, this pattern stands as a testament to the nuanced beauty achievable in the intricate world of needlework.
Use your color wheel to create bold and harmonious combinations. Why not elevate the existing palette by introducing solids, textures, and metallics?
I encourage you to immerse yourself in the boundless world of needlework, where each carefully placed stitch becomes a brushstroke, contributing to the evolving canvas of your unique artistic expression.
