Autumn Fire is the latest project in my needlepoint collection of Colour Complements patterns. With its warm colour palette, this design takes inspiration from the cozy and warm allure that autumn brings to our doorsteps every October.
Before we dive into how this design was created, I wanted to briefly touch on the warm colour palette that I chose for the pattern. The colours I chose were a combination of yellow, orange, red along with some hints of tan/golden brown.
The balance of these colors can significantly influence the look and feel of your finished project. For instance, incorporating more yellow than red can lend a brighter and more cheerful finish, which is like the sunlit autumn days. You can also do the opposite of increasing the use of deep red colours. Doing this can evoke a richer, more intense atmosphere, mirroring the fiery hues of sunset during the autumn season. Or, perhaps it reminds you more of a bold and colour garden in summer.
I decided to keep things balanced with this colour scheme by adding a blend of yellow and golden brown to mute the potential “brightness” that may result by using too much yellow. The deep red accents provide different focal points for the eye, encouraging you to focus on different aspects of the design allowing time to appreciate the stitch details!
Using a warm colour palette on this particular project
Stitched on 18 count mono canvas, this little beauty measures about 2 ½ inches in diameter, making it a perfect quick and simple design to stitch. You can easily increase the project size by adding some extra borders of your choosing.
The Autumn Fire kit comes complete with a downloadable PDF pattern, forwarded to your inbox upon purchase, along with three size 5 pearl cotton threads carefully selected to capture those inviting hues of yellow, orange, and red.
I used a very small amount of Kreinik size 8 braid in a gold/yellow blend which is not included in your kit. Substitute with any metallic thread you have in your stash in either yellow, red or orange – it’s all about making it your own.
If you would prefer to stitch the design using different colours, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can easily provide different colours based on what you’re envisioning.
