Time for my March Mini Sampler!
I introduced my mini sampler series in January so this will be the third sampler. If you would like to see the previous two samplers, please check under categories – mini samplers.
If you are a member of the American Needlepoint Guild then you may be familiar with “holed up minis”. If not, these are small projects introduced weekly on the American Needlepoint Guild website complimentary to members and non-members. Various designers offer these projects to help keep stitchers focused on positive things during COVID. Two of the projects posted last year were samplers designed by Marilyn Owen. Thank you to Marilyn who inspired this series.
Let’s talk about the March Sampler
It’s all about purple! The design consists of three sections. Once again this would be ideal for a beginner stitcher. While this sample measures 53 x 53 threads on 18 count canvas, a little under 3 inches it would be easy to adjust to the size as you wish.
One of my customers recently suggested that I offer a thread kit for my mini samplers. So, you will find the thread kit for the March Mini here
What does the thread kit include? One skein of size 5 perle cotton in colours 64, 120 and 183
Start to stitch with section 1 versus the border as this allows you to adjust the size of your sampler as you wish. Perhaps you’d like to add a wider border than what is shown OR perhaps wider sashing! Lots of opportunity for customization.
The mini samplers are offered complimentary. My stitch group and I played with threads and stitches. All our samplers are stitched on 18 count mono canvas with Colour Complements threads and perhaps an additional few solids or metallics.
This one is an original design. Sadly, I am not a designer but I have included a PDF which provides a diagram of the three stitches used and overall layout. Remember, you can adjust the size as you wish. Simply start stitching section 1, the “boxes” then you can vary the size of each of the other two sections. AND, perhaps you might like to change the stitches!!!
As always, enjoy stitching. Another “mini” next month! Thank you Marie for stitching and Susan for helping me with the diagrams.
