CRAZY QUILTING

Another area of Block #4 in my new CRAZY QUILTING project – Black Butterflies.  I work on one medium size crazy quilt project annually, or at least I try to!  This year I chose a completely different colour combination from last year in a bold primary colour palette.  You can find all the other posts pertaining to this project under “Black Butterflies” in the right sidebar under Categories.

You may recognize the floral motif from a previous post but today I will focus on the seam treatments just below this.  One is started with a black braid base very simply embellished with detached chain stitches.  The seam treatment to the left of this is a zig zag using an orange rayon thread with the addition of bead flowers. CRAZY QUILTING I wanted to show this second area as I used Sharon Boggon’s crazy quilting templates to trace the bird which was then stem stitched in a solid green perle.  I added the little bead flowers in the background with additional pistil stitches.  The lace trim in the top right was hand dyed tacked in place with the addition of beads and detached chains.

Coming up – the final reveal of Block #4!  Have a great weekend.
