CRAZY QUILTING, Colour Complements Embroidery Threads Another area of Block #4 in my new CRAZY QUILTING project – Black Butterflies.  I work on one medium size crazy quilt project annually, or at least I try to!  This year I chose a completely different colour combination from last year in a bold primary colour palette.  You can find all the other posts pertaining to this project under “Black Butterflies” in the right sidebar under Categories.

Here you will see one of my button clusters.  I used to visit the thrift store almost weekly when I first started crazy quilting which is a treasure trove for goodies.  I rarely go these days as I have “collected” quite a stash.  They almost always have a bag of earrings that are missing pairs so one off’s.  The silver metallic is an earring versus a button and I think really looks good.  I backed the cluster with some hand dyed lace motif leaves and the polka dot star is also from a thrift earring – I love this bit of whimsy.

The ric rac is stitched using elongated detached chain in a silk perle.

The seam treatment on the left has a base of running stitch in a red perle cotton.  This was then laced with Very Velvet Petite, one of those “bits” that was laying about on the work table.

More to come….
