JEWEL BOX, needlepoint

Introducing JEWEL BOX!  Each year I introduce three collections of colours, usually spring, summer and fall.  This year my spring collection includes four new colour combinations.  I like to use at least one of these colour combinations in a larger canvas project but for this collection I have decided to show each of my new colours in smaller samples which are part of a larger design.  I chose “Jewel Box” by Laura Perin Designs which is part of her Impressionist collection.  You can purchase the pattern on Laura’s site HERE or through your local needlework shop.

The entire pattern measures 10×10 on 18 count canvas.  Each of my diamonds measure approximately 3” in diameter and these make up the center of Laura’s pattern.

So, let’s start with my first Jewel Box sample shown above.  I chose Colour #39 as my focus colour.  It is a blend of several values of coral.  This combination will blend well with both spring and summer palettes, especially those with orange and pinks.  I added Colour #187 as an accent colour which is a blend of reds with hints of red/orange – a gorgeous bold blend which I would recommend trying if you have not already done so.  I added a spring green accent with Colour #184.  I generally like to add hints of sparkle so have used Kreinik Ribbon #9 (reds) and Kreinik Braid #7 (greens). Colour #39 Size 5 Perle Cotton

Colour #187 Size 5 Perle Cotton

Colour #184 Size 5 Perle Cotton

Kreinik Ribbon Colour #9

Kreinik Braid Colour #7

Although I used size 5 perle cottons, I could easily see using 6 strand cotton floss.  Perhaps this colour combination will inspire you to create your own Jewel Box OR perhaps another project.  My second diamond will be coming up on Wednesday.  Visit the SHOP!
