This is Kathleen’s WOOL APPLIQUE version of Bloomin Beauties pattern by Kim Schaefer. Bloomin Beauties Block #16! You can find this in Kim’s Flower Festival book. She has used a heavy black flannel for her background. Kathleen has used Colour Complements threads for the majority of her embellishing.
Purple and green is a really lovely combination. The solid green leaves are bordered with what I believe is chenille back stitched. The vein area is created with hand dyed velvet and embellished with fly stitch to create the center vein.
The flower petals are bordered with tiny bullions placed vertically in a solid perle cotton. The base of the flower is stem stitch with additional stem stitch vertically. It must have taken quite some time to stitch all those drizzle stitches. The icing on the cake is the pistil stitches in varying lengths in a solid coloured perle cotton for contrast.
I hope all of you who are following this project are enjoying the progression. Thank you Kathleen!
