Today’s Eye For Colour will surely get you in the holiday mood – think festive Christmas reds! If you’re new to my Eye For Colour series you are in for a treat. My goal with this series is to provide customers with a similar experience to selecting a colour palette and thread choices as you would do in a shop.

Let’s Get Festive With the Christmas Reds – Colour #187

As you have likely guessed, I am showcasing Colour #187 which is a gorgeous blend of REDS!  Bold, beautiful Christmas-inspired reds!  Since we are featuring a traditional seasonal palette of green and red, I thought this would be a great choice.

In the video, I have opted for an all-red palette today BUT try combining greens such as Colour #18 or Colour #184 to create a beautiful palette. 

I kept the palette simple showing Colour #187 in both size 5 Perle and 6 strand cotton floss. I also added Colour #7 in my floche which combines slightly different shades of reds. I have added several DMC solids including 321, 350, 351, 666 and 3801.

AND we need some texture and bling! In this particular project, I added a few Rainbow Gallery products including:

• Neon Rays 22, 119
• Entice 221, 239

Hopefully, the beautiful colours that I’ve highlighted inspire you to get started on some holiday projects. It’s a great time to pick up some REDS and start stitching. I hope this month’s Eye for Colour gives you some inspiration.

Today’s Eye For Colour takes a closer look at Colour #188 a gorgeous blend of yellow, blue, green and red. I offer these videos hopefully providing customers with a similar experience to selecting a colour palette and thread choices as you would do in a shop.

Many of the colours I feature are bright and really pack a punch when it comes to needlepoint or craft projects. While Colour #188 is no different, I really love this particular combination as each colour “pops”;

Let’s get started with this month’s Eye for Colour, Colour #188

Colour #188 is a stunning Autumn-inspired blend of yellow, blue, green and red.

I introduced this colour combination back in 2015 and shortly after decided to use it as my focus colour in my Starry Nights project. You can read about it in this blog post.

While the thread kit for this project has since been discontinued, I believe the palette below would provide a good starting point should you wish to stitch this lovely design. I would emphasize that if I were to stitch Starry Nights I would add more values to each of the colours shown in the video to provide good contrast.

What other colours work with Colour #188? 

I have added several colours of solid colours in DMC size 5 Perle cotton including:

• Greens = 986, 988
• Yellows = 742, 972
• Burgundy/Reds = 498, 814
• Blue = 939

I’ve also added some Rainbow Gallery products which include the following:

• Neon Rays 60
• Entice 52, 236
• Glisten 46

Colour #188 is one of my best sellers.  I hope this inspires you to give it a try in your next needlework project. Enjoy.

Today’s Eye For Colour video features Colour #28 which is a blend of medium to darker values of blue.  I offer these videos to provide customers with a similar experience to selecting a colour palette and thread choices as you would do if you were “in person” in a shop. 

I’ve chosen to create a contrasting palette for Colour #28 by combining variations of blues with orange.  Naturally, this is only one choice and you could create a palette by combining Colour #28 with whatever colours you like.  I remember when I first started quilting I made a blue and yellow quilt so this might be another option if you selected Colour #67.

What colours were used to create this palette with Colour #28? 

I started my palette by adding Colour Complements Colour #175, #36 and #37.  I then added several solid colours of DMC in various values of size 5 perle cotton including:

• Orange = 946, 947, 971
• Blues = 322, 334, 3325

I’ve also added some Rainbow Gallery products which include the following:

• Neon Rays 124
• Entice 297
• Glisten 5
• Petite Sparkle Rays 78

As you may have guessed with the title of this blog, this month, I am featuring Colour #187 which is a gorgeous blend of REDS!  Bold, beautiful Christmas-inspired reds!

Since it is November, I thought it would be a good idea to share red since it is ideal for some seasonal stitching. 

I have opted for an all-red palette today BUT you could combine greens such as Colour #18 or Colour #184 to create some balance with colour, creating a beautiful palette. 

I kept the palette simple showing Colour #187 in both size 5 perle cotton and 6 strand cotton floss. I also added Colour #7 in my floche which also possesses different shades of reds. I have added several DMC solids including 321, 350, 351, 666 and 3801.

AND we need some texture and bling! In this particular project, I added a few Rainbow Gallery products including:

• Neon Rays 22, 119
• Entice 221, 239

It’s a great time to pick up some REDS and start stitching. I hope this month’s Eye for Colour gives you inspiration for some seasonal stitching!

Today’s video post highlights my Eye For Colour series, with a focus on my rainbow blend, Colour #44.  If you are new to my blog, you may not be familiar with my Eye For Colour series. These videos were created to provide customers with a similar experience to selecting a colour palette and thread choices as you would do in a shop.

Let’s get started with this month’s Eye for Colour, Colour #44

Today, I am featuring Colour #44. This is a gorgeous combination of golden brown, blue and fuchsia.

Colour #44 is one of my most popular colours due in part to Kam’s gorgeous Rainbow Ribbons design.  You can read more about this project featured in Needlepoint Now in this blog post.

As with all my colour combinations, you could really choose a variety of threads to create your palette but let’s start with what I chose in the video.

I added several solid colours of DMC size 5 perle cotton. Golden browns #782, #783, #400.  Fuchsia/pinks colours #602, #718, #915 and blues #824, #995. Colour #995 is a very bold blue and may not appeal to everyone but I do think it provides a “pop” for this colour palette. 

I’ve also added some Rainbow Gallery products which include the following:

• Neon Rays 5, 82
• Entice 299
• Glisten 8

DO YOU HAVE AN EYE FOR COLOUR? 

Welcome to my Eye for Colour video series.  My goal with the series is to provide customers with a similar experience to selecting a colour palette and thread choices as you would do in a shop.

Today, I am featuring Colour #69 – a purple colour stitch sample. This colour is one of four colours introduced in my Fall 2020 collection.  It is a stunning and bold blend of purples and red violets.

So, let’s create a palette with this purple colour stitch sample

I have opted for a very bold and striking palette today.  I added Colour #67 which is a bold blend of yellows, also from my fall collection.  Then I added DMC solids in red violets 554, 718 and 915.  I wanted to add some purples to the palette but could not find what I felt was a good match in size 5 Perle.  There could possibly be a good match in floss as DMC produces more floss colours than size 5.  Then I added various yellows – 726, 744, 745, 727, 743 – which are also a part of the DMC collection.  

Once again I added some Rainbow Gallery products:

• Neon Rays 5, 78
• Petite Sparkle Rays 302
• Glisten 8, 12

Featuring his month’s video – Eye for Colour #36!

We are featuring a bold Colour #36 in today’s Eye For Colour Series. If you are new to my blog, I showcase a few of these videos occasionally each month. My goal with the series is to provide customers with a similar experience to selecting a colour palette and thread choices as you would do in a shop.

Let’s take a closer look at Colour #36

It’s quite clear that Colour #36 just screams of bold, bright colours!  More specifically, it is a blend of orange, red/orange, burnt orange with hints of golden yellow. The shades blend beautifully together creating a new colour of its own, don’t you think?

While Colour #36 looks stunning on its own, you can also pair it with other palettes.

I have chosen a fall palette to highlight Colour #36. I wanted to highlight the warmth that this colour can create when used in tandem with other “warm” colours. I started by adding Colour #57 from the Colour Complements collection which is a gorgeous blend of browns. 

Next are some DMC solids in colours, 32, 400, 922 and 972 

Then some Rainbow Gallery products

• Glisten 45, 46
• Neon Rays 47, 147, 128
• Sparkle Rays 52
• Entice 265

While this is a small palette of colours, I believe you could combine many more values of each of the solids to expand your choices.  So, why not play with some fall colours?!

Welcome to my Eye for Colour series! Today we’ll be featuring an Eye For Colour #31 My goal with the Eye for Colour series is to provide customers with a similar experience to selecting a colour palette and thread choices as you would do in a shop.

A Look at This month’s Eye for Colour Series #31

Today, I am featuring Colour #31, which includes colours that are reminiscent of juicy, bright watermelons.

While Christmas is some time yet, I thought it would be a good idea to share a colour combination that is ideal for some seasonal stitching.  After all, it is never too early to get started on those Christmas ornaments!

Colour #31 includes a beautiful blend of red/pink, pink and bright green. The colour combinations found on this thread pair perfectly with Colour #184 which has a blend of different shades of green. As you can see in the video, using the two creates a beautiful seasonal palette of traditional green and red. 

I kept my palette fairly simple and added only four solids including DMC colours 321, 893, 894 and 905.

I’ve also added some Rainbow Gallery products which include the following:

• Neon Rays 22, 138
• Entice 239, 283

Boo!!!  Featuring Colour #66

Colour #66 is a very bold blend of variations of orange.  I have decided to have a bit of fun today and create a small palette of colours ideal for any Halloween themed project.  It’s not too early to start stitching as many of the finishers are really busy!

So, my palette.

I chose several solid DMC colours in size 5 perle cotton including 742, 947, 971 and 310.

I’ve added some Rainbow Gallery products

• Glisten 1
• Neon Rays 1, 83, 108
• Sparkle Rays 77
• Entice 252, 253, 201

I hope this palette inspires you to start stitching Halloween! So, what are you waiting for?

Today, I am featuring Colour #182. .

Colour #182 is a blend of pale yellow, coral pink and green.

So, my palette.

I chose a variety of solid colours in DMC size 5 perle cotton.  These include colours 352, 353, 367, 368, 369 744, 745, 893 and 894.

I’ve added some Rainbow Gallery products

• Neon Rays 19, 35, 77
• Petite Sparkle Rays 26, 34, 51

I could envision this palette in either spring or summer themed projects.
