When you think of a Halloween-inspired colour palette, what colours come to your mind? This month we will focus on Colour #189, shown at the bottom of the photo above. I dyed this colour combination many years ago when I opened my business. I’ve always referred to it as my “Halloween” colour because it blends purple, yellow and turquoise/aqua with hints of green. It may be a significant departure from traditional colours like black and orange, but I think it’s a creative interpretation of other colours that you can use during the spooky season!
In the past, I’ve featured this colour combination many times on the blog, including demonstrating a palette drawing on the turquoise/aqua in the blend in this blog post . You can also find a stitch sample video for Colour #189 here, showing how the colour appears when stitched. Finally, Screech is a great example of this colour combination if you haven’t already checked it out.
While this is a fantastic choice for a palette featuring turquoise, aquas and lime green, it is also lovely combined with the colours we are featuring today. My stitch group chose this palette when I discussed avoiding using aquas and turquoise, so they came up with more of a fall-themed palette.
Here are some of the different colours that can be paired with this Halloween-inspired palette
When creating palettes for your needlework projects, always start with choosing a variegated. Now, since all of my colours are variegated, I tend to choose a “dominant” colour which will be placed in various locations OR used in various stitches throughout the canvas. I also like to select a monochromatic blend such as Colour #18 (greens) and Colour #183 (purples).
You have many choices to expand on this palette, including golden yellows, purples, greens and turquoise/aquas. I’d choose whatever are your favourites in various values and textures.
Later this month, we will post a lovely stitch sample demonstrating how we combined this palette.
