lavender-bargello

Since our colour feature focuses on purple/lavender this month, I’m going to share not one but two bargello samples — both with a beautiful lavender colour feature.

If you are new to the series, each month we feature one Bargello sample (two this month) using a particular colour theme as inspiration. Hopefully, you will find these samples offer inspiration to perhaps stitch some Bargello OR inspire a new colour combination for your next needlework project.

Let’s Talk About the Lavender Colour Feature on These Samples

Both samples feature the same three colours in zigzag designs. The sample above measures 3-inches square while the sample below measures 2 ½ inches square. Both are stitched with the same palette of colours on an 18-count canvas with size 5 perle cotton.

What colours did we use for this project are the following:

The patterns can be found in the Bargello Stitch book by Laura and Lynsey Angell. This is a great reference book to add to your personal library of needlework books if you don’t already have it.

If you are new to Bargello, it is a type of needlepoint consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. While flat stitches are basic and easy, the technique does require concentration when counting.

Are you enjoying the bargello samples we’ve been sharing? Can you visualize how well over-dyed and variegated threads can work in needlework?

Remember, the colours feature in these samples work well in any needlework project! Hopefully we’ve inspired you! Make sure you visit the blog as we share various samples each month.
