crazy quilting; colour complements hand dyed embroidery threads

The final reveal of Block #11 in my Black Butterflies CRAZY QUILTING project.

I chose a very bold primary colour palette for this project. If you are interested in following this project, you can view previous posts HERE.

I like how this came together.  I start all of my blocks by adding ribbons, laces, trims etc.  These are randomly placed so I am never quite sure when I begin how it will turn out.  I placed the button cluster over several seams that would otherwise have been difficult to stitch since they are rather short seams.  I have done this previously and it is an excellent way to embellish an otherwise challenging intersection of seams.

I think the sequin leaf treatment turned out well and not quite as shiny as I had thought it may be – blends well with the surrounding fabric.  Love the button wheel treatment BUT I will likely use perle cotton next time as the rayon was tricky to stitch with AND does not hold the wheel shape as well as I would have liked.

I added the dragonfly lace applique to fill in the blue background.  You can find a selection of threads in the shop for your crazy quilting projects.

All and all, I am happy with the results.  I am in the final stages of this project and will be sharing Block #12 very soon – the last one! I will need to start thinking about the next CQ project! Have a great weekend and back on Monday.
