The final reveal of Block #6 in my new CRAZY QUILTING project – Black Butterflies. You can find all the other posts pertaining to this project under “Black Butterflies” in the right sidebar under Categories.
If I am quite critical in my review of this block, I think it may have been best to make my ribbon flowers slightly smaller in scale. Having said this, I do feel the block is well balanced. I added the applique flower once stitching was complete in the lower right as there was a black space and it fit quite nicely.
I do not often stitch square style seams but you will see one in the top left. I embellished this with small bead flowers and silk ribbon leaves created with detached chain stitches.
I love the ric rac seam treatment. I recently purchased Kathy Shaw’s “Fancy Seam Designs” – fabulous book with over 500 different seam variations! The ric rac seam treatment is a variation of one of these. I started by tacking the ric rac in place using herringbone stitch. I then embellished the tops with beads and the bottoms with sequins. Although I have a lot of sequins I tend to forget about using these – have a feeling you will be seeing more now.
So that’s it for Block #6. Onto #7! It is a holiday weekend here in British Columbia so I will return to blogging on Wednesday May 23rd. Have a great weekend.
