How about some whimsy and a fun holiday tree pattern to celebrate the season? “Holly Jolly” is a whimsical tree pattern designed by Dawn Donnelly. The pattern is available in Needlepoint Now’s July/August 2022 issue.
When I first saw this design, I wanted to experiment with some of my Colour Complements threads. My local stitch group thought it would be fun to play with some colours too! Since we are featuring green and red to celebrate the festive season this month, we wanted to showcase our tree by combining red with white versus green. You could always add a green trunk!
What Colours Did We Use For This Holly Jolly Holiday Tree Pattern?
We used size 5 Perle cotton in the following colours:
- Colour #187
- DMC white
- Colour #48 (trunk)
I could see using Colour #57 (browns) for the trunk or perhaps Colour #18 (greens).
Dawn displayed two trees in her pattern, one using red and white and another colourful tree in her design. While we chose the red and white pattern for today’s post, we have a second sample to share next week that is more colourful! And, of course, we started playing with some different stitches.
