Today’s post features blackwork stitching which is a unique counted thread technique. I don’t stitch Blackwork myself so this particular pattern was stitched by Dominique.
To go with the theme of autumn (which is fitting as I had just released my new fall collection), she created this lovely leaf pattern found in Blackwork Made Easy by Lesley Wilkins.
In past blog posts, I’ve always shown each of the samples separately but today I’d like to feature two of the four new fall collection colours in our samples.
Here is the inspiration behind the colours in this Blackwork stitching pattern
Colour #74 was inspired by a branch of maple leaves set against a backdrop of a blue sky – can you picture it? The blend is several variations of orange and the blue is a “dusty” blue.
Colour #77 will appeal to many of my cross-stitch/Blackwork stitching customers as it is a blend of golden brown, golden yellow and muted orange.
Each of the above samples was stitched on 32-count cream linen using 1 strand of floss. Each leaf was outlined using DMC #930 floss (blue). Each leaf measures about 3 ½ x 2 ½ inches.
I hope this inspires those of you who do Blackwork to perhaps consider one of these colours in an upcoming project. Perhaps one of next year’s SAL projects?
I could envision it in the Linen and Threads SAL – could you?
