christmas tree needlework with colour complements

This is the second tree in my O Christmas Trees series.  I wanted to post a different style of tree from the first example and this worked perfectly.

Once again, it starts with a simple shape – a triangle.  The triangle was drawn on 18 count white mono canvas.  I think this would look great on coloured canvas as well.  It measures about 3 inches.  Remember when I told you that these trees would be easy, fast and simple to stitch.  Well, this one uses only three stitches – straight, back and cross.  Marie used two colours of Kreinik size 8 braid left over from some scraps.  Behind the Kreinik braid is Colour Complements Colour #18 which is a very popular blend of greens.  The tree border uses the same colour in a size 5 perle cotton.  The trunk is Colour Complements Colour #57 – a blend of browns.  You can take a closer look by enlarging the photo.

This could easily be finished as an ornament for the tree or gift tag.

That completes tree #2.  More to come.  Have you dived into your stash yet to create some Christmas trees of your own?
