ALPINE SUMMER, Colour Complement Threads

Several years ago Canadian designer, Carolyn Mitchell created the pattern for a free ornament called ALPINE SUMMER using Colour #120.  I recently received photographs from Juliana, another fellow Canadian who used the pattern to stitch her own version of Alpine Summer.

Juliana stitched two ornaments on 14 count interlock canvas that was coloured with waterproof markers.  She made some changes to the original pattern and has used threads from some of my sampler packs in size 3 perle cottons.

The ornament on the left used waffle stitch, Jessica, Smyrna crosses and cross stitches in various threads.  The tassel is created using some of the size 3 perle and the head is detached buttonhole using Kreinik braid.

I have shown both sides of one ornament on the right is a combination of scotch stitch, cross stitch and Smyrna crosses.   Juliana’s mother saved the little blue button in the center of one side from one of her childhood coats.  The green button on the other side is from her grandmother’s collection and likely vintage.

If you would like to read more about this design you can check this post on my blog.  This is the pattern if you would like to create your own Alpine Summer.

These are delightful Juliana – thank you for sharing.
