BLOOMIN BEAUTIES, hand dyed perle cotton

Another block in my BLOOMIN BEAUTIES series, and what a beauty it is – Block #4!  As I mentioned in previous posts, this is Kathleen’s wool applique version of Bloomin Beauties pattern by Kim Schaefer.  You can find this in Kim’s Flower Festival book.

Once again the background is a heavy black flannel and all the wool is hand dyed available through Wool Penny Rugs. Kathleen has used Colour Complements threads for embellishing.

What a great combination of orange.  Kathleen has once again chosen to keep her wool components in solids versus patterned wool.  The leaves are bordered with a chain stitch and the centers are stem stitches in a second over-dyed green perle cotton.  Can you believe how even these stitches are!?

She has layered the flower with a darker background and added a buttonhole stitch to the border.  The inner flower is bordered with a stem stitch.  The center of the flower is a grouping of drizzle stitches with very tiny French knots.

I continually admire Kathleen’s use of solids and her repetition of stitches not to mention her truly beautiful stitching.

Thank you Kathleen.  You can find all the posts related to this project under Categories – Wool Applique in the right sidebar.
