needlepoint stitch samples, hand dyed embroidery threads

My needlepoint stitch samples series continues today and I happen to think it is a real beauty!  For more on this series you can read this post and you can find all the stitch sample posts under the category needlepoint stitch samples in the right sidebar.

I did use pink again but combined it with one of my favourites, purple!  I generally start my samples by stitching the border first.  As I progress I’ll start some from the center.  This border is the oblong cross from Ruth Schmuff/Kathy Holicky’s book “Stitches – Volume 1” on page 220.  I stitched two oblong cross rows using size 5 perle cotton colour #115.  I then stitched a third oblong cross row using Rayon colour #7.   I like the way the lustre of the rayon contrasts with the perle cotton.  The center is byzantine stitch.  I alternated two size 5 perle cottons, colour #149 and colour #147.  LOVE IT!  Stitched on 18 count mono canvas 25 count in size.

I could easily see this stitched with more purple versus the alternating colours in the center.  What about greens, yellows, reds.  I can see I may have to experiment a bit more 🙂  Have a great weekend and YES, more needlepoint stitch samples next week.
