crazy quilting, hand dyed threads, silk ribbon embroideryBack to some crazy quilting to finish off the week.  I’ve been continuing progress on another section of my medium dusty crazy quilt!  I try to alternate between crazy quilting and needlepoint otherwise I tend to get bored.

You can see the seed packet print very clearly here.  If you remember, each of my crazy quilt blocks contains one of these.  I wanted to draw the eye to the seed packet so I did some silk ribbon embroidery to surround it.  I started by stitching the feather stitch using two strands of cotton floss.  I then added the main flower with 7 mm hand dyed silk ribbon and added a pistil stitch on top of the petals.  I added leaves, again with 7 mm silk ribbon then very loose French knots to mimic baby’s breath in twisted silk thread.  I try whenever possible to mix up my thread choices in my crazy quilting.  If one section is stitched with silk then I’ll opt to stitch a seam treatment close to it with perhaps a perle cotton or floss.  The bottom seam treatment is a diamond shape stitched with size 8 perle cotton.  I added straight stitches with a machine metallic thread then added square shaped beads to the center.  That’s it for this week – more on Monday!
