hand dyed embroidery threads, hand dyed perle cotton, needlepoint stitch samples

Another sample from my needlepoint stitch samples series today.  If you missed the first post outlining this series you can find it here.  The sample shown is stitched on 18 count mono canvas and is approximately 1 1/4 inch square stitched 25 count so fairly small.  I made this one up as I went and quickly discovered the error of my ways 🙂  I decided to show this mistakes and all as YES, I do make mistakes.

Greens are one of my favourite colours to work with – there are so many variations.  I stitched the outer border with a size 5 perle cotton colour #106 in a straight stitch.  The center inside rows are stitched in a diagonal straight stitch in a size 5 perle cotton colour #106 as above.  The remaining center rows on either side of this are stitched in size 5 perle cotton colour #131.  A single row of continental stitch adds a bit of glitz (AND COVERS UP SOME MISTAKES in spacing) using sparkle chainette colour #5.

I now know that I need to be very careful in my choice of stitches to ensure they cover the area I want them to.  I now have graph paper handy which I should have had to begin with!  There you go and remember, I’m learning as I go 🙂
