A small section of Block #2 in my new CRAZY QUILTING project – Black Butterflies. I have mentioned previously that I generally work on one medium size crazy quilt project annually. This year I chose a completely different colour combination from last year in a bold primary colour palette. You can find all the other posts pertaining to this project under “Black Butterflies” in the right sidebar under Categories.
I started this block with laying a wider piece of lace over one of the larger seam areas. I felt it looked far too plain so I added the braid to the center of this. I then added a length of Kreinik 1/16” ribbon and stitched it in place with a tight zig zag using size 8 perle cotton. The top of the lace has a grouping of green seed bead and detached chain accented with red heart brads. I added more detached chains (size 5 perle cotton) in the shape of flower petals to the bottom of the braid accented with French knots.
The paisley was bordered with 6 strand floss and the center is cross hatched using silk perle and accented with Kreinik 1/16” ribbon to form crosses. I added a music brad just next to this.
I would like to thank Sharon Boggon for the lovely paisley stencil. This is part of a group of stencils Sharon has created specifically for crazy quilters. They are available for purchase on her website. I would most definitely recommend them as I tend to use them a lot!
More of Block #2 coming soon. Something special on Wednesday so stay tuned.
