So, let’s get into the CRAZY QUILTING stitching!
I mentioned earlier this week that I started this project by selecting a printed fabric as my “focus” fabric. You will find at least one piece of this fabric in ALL my blocks for balance and sometimes more than one – you can see this on the bottom right.
Let us begin in the top left. I had a stash of lace trims that I had dyed some time ago so I chose this as a base. I tacked this in place with French knots using perle cotton and further tacking at the points of the lace with straight stitches. Above this I added a half circle of detached chain and further embellished with half buttonhole wheels. Some straight stitches were added between the half wheels with some metallic beads.
Once I had completed this seam, I found the green fabric above was a bit empty so I added some mother of perle buttons and tacked these in place with seed beads.
When I dye my threads, I always have left over bits which I keep in a basket. This is what I generally use for my crazy quilting 🙂
I know there is more shown in the block but I will be describing these other seam treatments in more detail in upcoming posts.
Hope you enjoyed my first week of Black Butterflies – more to come in following weeks.
