I always start with one colour combination when I start my dyeing process. I usually have either come across a photograph OR seen flowers at the flower shop or nursery OR something in nature. A number of years ago I did an online course relating to art where we were asked to collect various images showing “colours”. I was recently purging in the studio and came across the photos, in specific the one above. The turquoise and orange just popped so I did some experimenting.
I started with orange but found I did not achieve the results I wanted to so I moved into golden yellow and variations of turquoise. Three of my summer collection involves turquoise/golden yellow, pink/golden yellow and turquoise/blues – stunning! I loved these colours so much that I decided to stitch my summer project with them so stay tuned later in the month – it is a beauty!
I then started playing with teal blues and golden browns. This combination came about because these two colours were sitting next to one another in jars SO I started experimenting. I came up with a combination of golden brown, teal blue and a touch of seafoam (blue/green). I then dyed up a couple of blending colours in variations of values of teals and variations of values of golden brown. I have a small project I will be sharing with these colours.
The inspiration for my seventh colour came from strawberries! YES, strawberries. I am going to let you guess the colours !
Can you hardly wait to see them – hope so! Remember, newsletter recipients are the first to know so sign up for my newsletter!
