WOOL APPLIQUE – Bloomin Beauties Block #5 – WOW! As I mentioned in previous posts, this is Kathleen’s wool applique version of Bloomin Beauties pattern by Kim Schaefer. You can find this in Kim’s Flower Festival book.
There are so many different and beautiful ways Kathleen has embellished this flower. The leaves are bordered with a chain stitch and the inner leaf is bordered with a coral stitch. Each of the flowers are bordered with different stitches including couching, backstitch, buttonhole, fly, stem, Palestrina and pistil. You will see that Kathleen adds inner borders to only some of the flowers while leaving others with no stitching. Borders include bullions, stem stitch and backstitch. On one of the flowers she has chosen to add a center with a loopy stitch created by stitching a base back stitch then looping another thread through this – quite creative! One of the centers is entirely cross stitched using a combination of thread and beads. Another is a double cast-on, another detached chain, cross stitch and French knots.
Kathleen has chosen to use some patterned dyed wool in this block which I think looks fabulous – don’t you? Once again, thank you Kathleen – hope she has inspired you wool applique enthusiasts!
