When I first started crazy quilting I scoured thrift stores for lace. As I am sure many of you know there is a lot of nylon lace out there. I have experimented with dyeing nylon but it only dyes well using disperse dyes. Well, I did manage to find this lovely quite wide lace which is cotton. Many times I dye the lace but I chose to keep it “natural” on this occasion. Once I had laid the lace over the seam treatment, I added some trim at the bottom. I then added some tubular ribbon gathered to create small flower buds. This was further embellished with the addition of Kreinik 1/16″ ribbon.
I thought I would share a hint today. Many times when I am laying lace over a seam treatment I use a little strip of Wonder Under fusible to hold the lace in place. This allows me freedom in stitching. You can purchase it in rolls of 1/4″ wide which works well 🙂
I added small partial woven wheels at the top using Kreinik size 8 braid.
At the bottom I added flowers that I had dyed many years ago in my stash. These were stitched in place using Size 5 Perle Cotton with the addition of French knots in the surrounding area.
